Lancaster City Council is looking for a Waste Collection Operative dedicated to delivering high-profile waste management services. This permanent role involves safely driving LGVs, supervising a team, and ensuring eco-friendly practices as the Council aims to reduce carbon emissions. Full training is provided, and the position offers considerable benefits and allowances.
The Role
We are seeking to recruit a reliable, enthusiastic and self-motivated person to assist in the safe delivery of the high-profile services of Waste Collection.
Afull current UK driving licence is essential, as the post holder will be required to:
A current CPC cardand the ability to undertake heavy manual work is essential. Previous experience in similar work is desirable.
This is a responsible post and it is essential that you have an appreciation of the contribution that good waste management practices can have to improving the environment, the image of the region and objectives of the Council. You must possess good communication skills, be able to supervise and motivate a small team. You must have the ability to undertake a range of duties and to learn quickly, as well as undertaking tasks with a minimum of supervision. You will be required to work both as part of a team and independently.
Communicating clearly and courteously both to your work colleagues and members of the public is paramount as is your ability to work to written instructions. You will have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and you are able to clearly demonstrate an understanding of transport compliance and regulations.
You must be flexible, as early morning, evening and weekend work are required. You will be required to work in adverse weather conditions and to handle waste. Full training will be given to the successful candidate. The hours of work for this position are 37 per week, working 4 days, 7:00 am to 4:45 pm. On occasion you may be required to work from 6:00 am and may also be required to work until 6:00 pm.
This permanent post is based at White Lund Depot, Westgate, Morecambe.
The successful candidate must be able to work on Bank Holidays which are normal working days (except for 25thDecember/26thDecember and 1stJanuary), public holidays and extra “catch-up” days as directed by the Operations Manager. Catch up days for December bank holidays will either be the Saturday immediately before the bank holiday or the Saturday after.
