In this senior support role, you will work collaboratively with class teachers, SENCOs, and specialist therapists to lead high-impact learning activities and support pupils across the school who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). Using your Level 4 expertise and advanced classroom experience, you will take a proactive role in planning and delivering structured 1:1 interventions, leading small-group learning, and covering classes when required to ensure pupils consistently achieve their individual Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.

Key Role Details:
  • Position: Level 4 SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Location: Cambridge

  • Contract: Full-Time, Permanent (Term-Time)

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday, daytime school hours

Key Responsibilities:
  • Classroom Leadership & Cover: Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging learning activities to small groups or whole classes during planned teacher cover, PPA, or targeted intervention periods.

  • Specialist Learning Support: Design and execute structured 1:1 and small-group learning interventions tailored to individual EHCP goals, adapting resources independently to suit diverse learning styles.

  • Complex Needs Support: Support pupils across a spectrum of needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

  • Communication & Visual Frameworks: Confidently implement and model visual schedules, PECS, or Makaton to promote language development and foster pupil independence.

  • Behaviour & Sensory Regulation: Apply gentle, nurture-focused strategies and sensory regulation breaks to maintain a calm learning environment and support emotional well-being.

  • Personal Care & Wellbeing: Assist pupils with personal care, hygiene, and mobility needs where required by individual care plans, maintaining student dignity and safety at all times.

  • Assessment & Peer Mentoring: Assess pupil progress during interventions, maintaining detailed records for EHCP annual reviews, while offering guidance and support to junior classroom TAs.

Candidate Criteria & Requirements:
  • Qualifications:

    • Level 4 Qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (e.g., Level 4 Certificate/Diploma, HLTA status, or equivalent recognised education qualification).

    • GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths (or equivalent).

  • Experience: Demonstrable, extensive experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) within a school or specialist setting.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and classroom management skills with a patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.

  • Confidence and willingness to assist with personal care duties where required by pupil EHCPs.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
