Job summary

Harrow Gate Primary Academy invites applications for a Level 3 Nursery Teaching Assistant. This is a permanent, full-time role based at Piper Knowle Road, Stockton on Tees, TS19 8DE, working 39.5 hours per week across 39 weeks with additional PD days.

The successful candidate will support children aged 2–11 within a caring, collaborative environment from an Ofsted‑rated Good school, offering strong professional development opportunities and a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

  • Level 3 Early Years qualification is required.
  • Experience supporting children in Nursery or Reception is essential.
  • Solid knowledge of the Early Years curriculum and child development is necessary.
  • Ability to support prime areas of learning and observe/assess children.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for nursery-aged children.
  • Plan and deliver purposeful play and learning activities.
  • Support children’s communication, reading, writing, and mathematics development.
  • Observe and assess progress, contributing to planning and reviews.
  • Work closely with parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Maintain safeguarding, health, and wellbeing in all activities.

Level 3 Nursery Teaching Assistant

Working Hours: 39.5 per week

Working Weeks: 39 weeks a year ( TTO + 5 PD days)

Salary Scale Range: NJC 10-12

Actual salary: £26,329.34 NJC 10 starting point

We are looking for someone who:
  • Holds a relevant Level 3 Early Years qualification.
  • Has experience of supporting children’s learning in Nursery or Reception.
  • Has secure knowledge of child development and the Early Years curriculum.
  • Understands how to support children’s prime areas of learning.
  • Can support children’s early communication, reading, writing and mathematical development.
  • Can establish warm, trusting and secure relationships with children.
  • Has high expectations for every child, including children with SEND and those facing barriers to learning.
  • Can use observations and assessments to respond to children’s individual needs.
  • Communicates positively and professionally with parents, carers, colleagues and external professionals.
  • Is calm, flexible, reliable and able to use initiative.
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional conduct
The successful candidate will:
  • Provide a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment in which children feel secure and valued.
  • Encourage children’s curiosity, independence, confidence and enjoyment of learning.
  • Plan and deliver purposeful play and learning activities for individuals and small groups.
  • Promote children’s communication, language and vocabulary throughout the provision.
  • Contribute to observations, assessments, planning and reviews of children’s progress.
  • Provide targeted support and interventions for children with additional needs.
  • Work closely with parents, carers and external professionals.
  • Support children’s personal care, eating and toileting needs sensitively and respectfully.
  • Promote positive behaviour through consistent routines, secure relationships and appropriate support.
  • Maintain high standards of supervision, health, safety and safeguarding.
  • Contribute positively to the wider life of the academy.
