Job summary

Crucial Environmental invites applications for an Asbestos Laboratory Technician Apprentice (Level 3) in Worthing. The role provides hands‑on laboratory work, sample preparation, asbestos fibre identification, and accurate data recording within a regulated QA framework.

The 12‑month apprenticeship includes online and in‑person training, with a dedicated mentor, and aims to develop competency towards BOHS P401 and RSciTech recognition.

Qualifications

• Be 18+ and eligible to work in the UK.
• No prior Level 3 or higher qualification in a closely related subject is required, but applicants should not already hold a Level 3+ in the same field.
• This apprenticeship runs for 12 months with structured learning and on‑the‑job training.

Responsibilities

• Receive, log and prepare laboratory samples for analysis.
• Carry out sample preparation techniques in line with procedures.
• Develop skills in stereo and polarised light microscopy for asbestos fibres.
• Identify chrysotile, amosite and crocidolite fibres accurately.
• Record activities and results; maintain documentation and QA records.
• Support equipment maintenance and ensure a safe laboratory environment.
