Job summary

Longwill A Primary School for Deaf Children is seeking a proactive Teaching Assistant to support Deaf pupils aged 2–11, working with Teachers of the Deaf and other staff. You will help deliver sign bilingual education, foster inclusive learning, and contribute to a warm, collaborative school culture.

The role requires creativity, teamwork and a genuine commitment to raising standards for Deaf children, including those with additional needs. Training and support are provided.

Qualifications

  • Interest in Deaf sign bilingual education and inclusive learning.
  • Ability to communicate in British Sign Language (minimum Level 1).
  • Willingness to work with Deaf and hearing colleagues as part of a team.
  • Commitment to raising standards and supporting diverse pupil needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Teachers of the Deaf in everyday classroom activities.
  • Support Deaf pupils with learning and wellbeing across the day.
  • Help implement sign bilingual teaching approaches and resources.
  • Contribute to planning, small-group work and progress monitoring.

Job description

Our outstanding innovative and welcomingprimary special school caters for children between the ages of 2 – 11 years oldwho are Deaf and require a sign bilingual education. We are currently funded for 65 places. Theschool has a national reputation as a centre of excellence in Deaf Education.

We seek to appoint an enthusiastic andhighly motivated Teaching Assistant who has high expectations for Deaf childrenand a firm commitment to raising standards, working alongside our Teachers ofthe Deaf and fellow Teaching Assistants, both Deaf and hearing.

Longwill is a small, friendly schoolwhich offers an excellent education to Deaf pupils from throughout the WestMidlands and surrounding areas. We arelooking for a Teaching Assistant who:

  • Is enthusiastic,motivated and a lifelong learner
  • Is able to workwell in teams
  • Support thevaried and complex needs of our Deaf sign bilingual pupils, some withadditional needs
  • Can work flexiblyto meet the needs of the school
