ROLE: Learning Mentor Level 1- Isolation
SCHOOL: Clifton Community School, Wickersley Partnership Trust
SALARY: WPT Band 5 £30023 - £32046 (Pro rata: £26443 - £28225)
CONTRACT: Permanent
HOURS: 37 per week, term time only
Are you a resilient and inspiring individual committed to helping students reset their behaviour and overcome barriers to learning? We are seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor Level 1 (Isolation) to lead and manage our internal exclusion provision. In this vital role, you will maintain a structured, calm, and high-expectation environment while providing targeted support—both academic and behavioural—to help students reflect, learn, and successfully reintegrate into mainstream classrooms.
At Wickersley Partnership Trust (WPT), we are fuelled by a single commitment: ‘We never knowingly do less for other people’s children than we would for our own.’ As a thriving network of schools across South Yorkshire, we combine high expectations with embedded inclusivity. We do not work in silos; instead, we rely on deep collaboration and school-to-school support to ensure every student develops socially, emotionally, and academically to achieve the highest standards.
As a Learning Mentor L1 – Isolation you will play a crucial role in maintaining school culture, high standards of behaviour, and educational continuity. You will oversee the daily operation of the internal isolation room, ensuring it remains a focused, disruption-free environment. Rather than just supervising time away from the classroom, you will actively mentor pupils to address the root causes of challenging behaviour, deliver and support work set by subject teachers, and facilitate smooth transitions back into mainstream lessons.
Provision Management: Ensure the daily, smooth operation of the isolation room, maintaining a quiet, highly structured, and purposeful environment aligned with the Trust's behaviour policies.
Targeted Academic Support: Facilitate, supervise, and assist pupils with completing work provided by subject teachers, ensuring learning continues without interruption during periods of internal exclusion.
Behavioural Mentoring & Restoration: Conduct one-to-one restorative conversations and mentoring sessions with students to help them reflect on their behaviour, develop coping mechanisms, and reduce repeat visits.
Reintegration Support: Work closely with Heads of Year, the SENCO, and pastoral staff to plan and monitor successful reintegration transitions back into the classroom.
Progress & Behaviour Tracking: Accurately record attendance, behaviour incidents, and completed academic work within school management systems, reporting patterns or concerns to pastoral leaders.
Family Engagement: Liaise with families when necessary regarding isolation placements, communicating expectations, progress, and interventions to foster strong home-school partnerships.
Qualifications: NVQ Level 2 (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline is required.
Experience & Attributes: Strong behaviour management skills, high emotional resilience, and the ability to establish firm boundaries while remaining supportive and encouraging.
