Responsibilities

  • Providing typing, secretarial and administrative support to fee earners
  • Transcribing and preparing correspondence and legal documents using digital dictation, word processing and appropriate firm precedents.
  • Operating the firm’s case management systems, including electronically storing and attaching documents to the relevant matters.
  • Maintaining client and matter files accurately and ensuring documents are filed promptly.
  • Supporting matters from inception through to closure and developing an understanding of the property transaction process.
  • Managing incoming and outgoing mail, including reviewing and clearing scanned mail.
  • Arranging appointments, meetings and travel, and maintaining fee earner diaries as required.
  • Providing professional and friendly support to clients both in person and over the telephone.
  • Assisting with compliance reports and other administrative requirements across the department.
  • Learning to operate the firm’s Records Management System, including requesting, returning and relocating deeds.
  • Preparing and submitting enquiries to utility companies and local authorities.
  • Developing an understanding of the different forms and procedures involved in property transactions.
  • Completing general administrative duties including scanning, printing, photocopying and e-faxing.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of firm and client information and ensuring compliance with relevant procedures and protocols.
  • Supporting colleagues across the wider team and assisting with other reasonable requests as required.

You'll provide important secretarial and administrative support to fee earners, helping the team deliver an efficient, professional service to clients. You'll work closely with experienced colleagues, learn how property transactions progress from inception through to completion, and develop your knowledge of legal procedures and firm protocols along the way.

What's the role?

As Legal Secretary, you'll provide support with a varied range of administrative, secretarial and client-facing responsibilities.

The role would suit someone who is proactive, organised and keen to learn. You'll need excellent attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities and a calm, professional approach when working to deadlines.

You'll also have the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge through training and hands on experience, supported by senior colleagues and the wider team.

What will you be doing?
