Job summary

Birmingham City Council is seeking a Legal Intervention Coordinator for a permanent role in the Children and Families Directorate. The position is grade C with a salary of £35,412 - £41,771, working 36.5 hours per week and a hybrid arrangement requiring attendance at Birmingham City Council buildings as needed.

The post is a secondment for six months with potential extension. You will support schools and agencies on attendance statutory actions, review referrals under Education Act provisions,

Qualifications

• Strong background in school attendance, legal intervention or education support.
• Commitment to safeguarding and excellent organisation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide information, advice and guidance to school staff and other agencies on recording and administration of legal procedures, ensuring they meet evidence requirements.
• Communicate with defendants following receipt of letters or calls and respond appropriately.
• Attend court and act as an authorised officer on behalf of the local authority.
• Develop, maintain and review all systems relating to legal procedures, ensuring requirements are met.
• Manage the issuing of Penalty Notices, and advise schools and other agencies on the criteria for issuing notices.
• Prepare and produce Section 9 Statements of Witness for school staff and other agencies in relation to non-attendance prosecutions.
• Plan and manage the delivery of legal documentation to defendants, including summonses and single justice procedure notices.
• Prepare and provide the necessary documentation to legal services relating to trials.
• Supervise team members, including regular appraisal and adherence to HR policies.
