Legal Counsel (In-House)

Energy firm

Leeds (or London) depending on your preference

Hybrid working ( 1 day per week in the office)

The duties

• Providing commercially focused legal advice on a broad range of projects ensuring compliance with applicable law.
• Reviewing, negotiating and/or drafting agreements and conducting contract negotiations with project counterparties including development, construction, O&M, financing, offtake, joint venture and SaaS agreements for a wide range of projects
• Supporting on commercial and contractual matters for tenders, projects, variations and on-going contractual and operational matters.
• Assisting on the governance of transactions at local and group level.
• Working closely with colleagues throughout the group and with customers.
• Managing external legal resource as required.
• Assisting in developing and delivering training on legal matters for colleagues across the business.

The requirements

• UK (or common law equivalent) qualified solicitor or barrister Experience in both private practice and in-house roles preferred but not essential
• Understanding of the contractual framework surrounding energy projects in particular renewables within the UK energy market.
• Experience of energy projects preferred. Experience in or familiarity with hydrogen projects would be useful.
• Experience of or a keen interest in new and evolving technologies and digital transformation.
• Experience of negotiating bespoke construction and O&M agreements and also agreements based on industry standard forms in particular the JCT suite of contracts, NEC, FIDIC and IChemE.
