Job Description:

We have a new opportunity for a Legal Compliance Manager to join our Legal & Governance team on a fixed-term basis of 12 months. You will be an experienced compliance professional, a creative and pragmatic problem solver, and able to work collaboratively with stakeholders. You will translate complex regulatory requirements into effective guidance and optimized processes.

About the role:

You'll work closely with our Senior Legal Compliance Manager to develop, implement, and manage a broad compliance framework across the organization. You will lead key initiatives in Data Protection, Access and Benefit Sharing, National Security & Investment, Trusted Research, and Anti-Fraud, Bribery, and Corruption.

You will project manage, collaborate across teams, identify gaps, influence decision-making, and promote a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing:

  • Project managing and implementing compliance initiatives, supporting design of pragmatic, risk-based solutions.
  • Assessing internal controls and assurance mechanisms for compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Providing guidance and training to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Monitoring compliance, analyzing trends, and supporting leadership with remedial actions.
  • Promoting a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Scanning for regulatory changes, conducting assessments, and working with teams to adapt.
  • Deputizing for SLCM when needed.
  • Contributing to wider Legal & Governance activities aligned with the organization's mission.

Essential Skills:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent.
  • Experience in implementing compliance in complex organizations, with process improvement skills.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel.
  • Ability to recognize risk and seek advice.
  • Effective at building relationships across diverse groups.
  • Positive attitude, flexible, and proactive.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage complex processes.
  • Enthusiasm for scientific research and the organization's mission.

About Us:

The Legal & Governance team handles agreements, data protection, confidentiality, and legal queries related to research collaborations and materials transfers.

Other Information:

  • Salary: £53,000 - £64,000
  • Hybrid working: minimum 2 days in the office
  • Full-time and part-time applications accepted
