Job summary

RG Consultancy is recruiting on behalf of a long-established Stockport law firm for a Legal Cashier to join its small finance team. You will report to the Finance Manager and play a key role in day-to-day financial processing.

The role requires strong SARs knowledge, VAT compliance, and meticulous attention to detail. AAT qualification is advantageous; flexible working hours and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Experience as Legal Cashier in law firm or professional services.
• Strong SARs understanding and VAT legislation.
• Excellent numerical accuracy and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Posting incoming payments to client and office ledgers.
• Processing outgoing payments by bank transfer and cheque per procedures.
• Checking completion statements for financial accuracy.
• Posting client bills including fees, VAT, and disbursements.
• Posting purchase ledger invoices and allocating them to suppliers.
• Reconciling client and office accounts and resolving discrepancies.
• Ensuring SARs compliance and adherence to firm policies.
• Liaising with fee earners, clients and suppliers on payments and billing queries.
• Assisting month-end accounts and general legal cashiering duties.

RG Consultancy are working with a very well-established firm of Solicitors in Stockport who are recruiting for a Legal Cashier to join their small finance team. You will join a small growing team and report into the Finance Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Posting incoming payments to the correct client and office account ledgers
• Processing outgoing payments by bank transfer and cheque in line with firm procedures and SRA Accounts Rules
• Checking completion statements to ensure financial accuracy before completion.
• Posting client bills, ensuring fees, VAT, and disbursements are recorded correctly
• Posting purchase ledger invoices and allocating them to the correct supplier and nominal accounts
• Reconciling client and office account transactions and resolving any discrepancies
• Ensuring compliance with SRA Accounts Rules and the firm's financial policies
• Liaising with fee earners, clients, and suppliers to resolve payment and billing queries
• Assisting with month-end accounts processes and general legal cashiering duties

Person Specification

• Proven experience as a Legal Cashier within a law firm or working an account's role within a similar professional services environment
• Strong understanding of Solicitors Accounts Rules (SARs) and VAT legislation
• Excellent attention to detail, numerical accuracy, and organisational skills
• Proficient in legal and/or accounting software
• Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise confidently across departments
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy, deadline-driven environment
• An AAT qualification would be an advantage
