Job summary

Qualifications

Lecturer Teacher Education and Professional Learning (Welsh Medium)

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Cardiff School of Education and Social Policy (CSESP) offers four accredited ITE programmes, PGCE Primary (3-11), PGCE Secondary (11-18), BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and School Based Employee Route. These are accredited by the Education Workforce for Wales (EWC).

As a member of the CSESP team you will be accountable for teaching, curriculum development, research and professional learning within your field of expertise. You will use innovative and inclusive learning strategies which serve to motivate and support students to achieve outstanding academic and professional outcomes.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability and willingness to teach across phase on the PGCE Primary (3-11), PGCE Secondary and BA (Hons) Primary Education with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) programme as well as non QTS programmes within the School. This may include the delivery of Welsh Language Development sessions for students studying through the medium of English.

You will make a significant contribution to employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level. You will also be expected to contribute to the research profile of the School and to meet the qualitative and quantitative requirements for submission to the next Research Excellence Framework.

What we are looking for - Experience & Strengths
  • Can communicate fluently on complex and specialist matters in Welsh.
  • A good level of knowledge relevant to the subject and professional area, including primary and/or secondary education.
  • A sound understanding of pedagogy.
  • A sound understanding of research/innovation and scholarly activity.
  • Ability to develop teaching and/or research programmes and the provision of learning support.
  • Ability to design teaching and learning material.
  • Ability to employ appropriate assessment methods.
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement and to use initiative and problem-solving skills to improve performance.
  • Ability to communicate and disseminate complex and conceptual ideas in a variety of ways – presentations at conferences, reports on findings, publications, feedback etc.
  • Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.
  • Experience of providing academic leadership and first line support/mentoring for other colleagues.
  • A good honours degree and Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).

You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. An established or promising research profile and very good teaching experience on relevant programmes is essential.
