Job summary

Barking & Dagenham College is seeking a passionate Lecturer - SEND to join on a permanent part-time basis (21.6 hours/week, 0.6 FTE). The role begins in August 2026 and involves delivering engaging literacy-focused lessons to SEND learners, adapting to diverse needs and driving progress.

Qualifications

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching SEND students within Further Education.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a Lecturer - SENDto join our team on a Part-time (21.6 hours per week, 0.6 FTE), permanent basis. This role is expected to start in August 2026.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Lecturer - SEND, you will deliver engaging and inclusive lessons to SENDlearners, supporting them to develop practical literacy skills for work, further study and everyday life.

We’re seeking a passionate SEND lecturer who believes every learner can succeed. You’ll deliver inclusive, engaging lessons tailored to diverse needs, using strong Teaching, Learning and Assessment practices to drive progress, independence, and real-world outcomes.

You’ll be someone who:

  • Puts learners first
  • Adapts teaching creatively to meet individual needs
  • Collaborates effectively with staff, families, and external teams
  • Is reflective, proactive, and committed to continual improvement

You will:

  • Develop engaging schemes of work tailored to learners with diverse starting points
  • Use learner-centred teaching and assessment strategies to drive progress and achievement
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback that builds confidence and promotes independence
  • Monitor and track attendance, progress and achievement, implementing timely interventions where required
  • Support learners with varying barriers to education, creating an inclusive and motivating classroom environment
  • Contribute to curriculum development, ensuring provision remains relevant to employment and progression pathways
  • Engage in continuous professional development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of education policiesand practice
What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a passionate and committed Lecturer - SENDspecialist who understands the transformational impact of SEND education.

You should have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent)

In addition, you will demonstrate:

  • Experience teaching SEND studentswithin Further Education
  • Experience delivering classes to students with a diverse range of Educational needs
  • Strong understanding of inclusive teaching strategies
  • The ability to differentiate effectively for mixed-ability groups
  • Experience tracking and monitoring learner progress using digital systems
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A commitment to safeguarding and learner wellbeing
