About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for two Lecturers or Senior Lecturers to join the recently established BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology and become part of a thriving academic community at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN) at King’s College London. The BSc in Neuroscience and Psychology is one of two highly successful UG programmes offered at the IoPPN and accredited by the British Psychological Society.

We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated colleagues who can make a distinctive contribution to research-led education. You should have a background in discipline-specific research, excellent teaching and communication skills, be able to inspire and engage students, and be committed to excellence in student experience.

We are particularly interested in recruiting colleagues with expertise in cognitive neuroscience, systems/clinical neuroscience, cognitive neuropsychology. Expertise/experience in applying and/or teaching quantitative data analysis methods, current transparent research practises, programming for data analysis and simulation (in R; MATLAB and/or Python highly desirable) are expected.

The post-holders will play a role in the development and delivery of an innovative curriculum that spans and integrates Neuroscience and Psychology. A key focus of the programme is to equip our UG students with the knowledge and skills, including coding, required for the transparent and reproducible application of quantitative data analysis in neuroscience and psychology.

The posts will sit within the Department of Neuroimaging at the Denmark Hill campus at the IoPPN and the postholders will be working closely with colleagues across other Departments, including the Department of Psychology. King’s also welcomes hybrid & flexible working.

The appointment will be made at either Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending on experience. We are seeking to appoint candidates with experience in both research and education, but who would like to mainly focus on education for their next post. Appointments will be made on the Academic Education Pathway (AEP). In the AEP the primary contribution is to education (80% of role) and secondary contribution to scholarship/research (20%), which may be discipline specific or education-focused. The following expectations are associated with the AEP: teaching, supervision, student support, educational leadership and innovation, discipline and/or education-related research & scholarship, and administration. Promotion is possible through the Academic Education Pathway, up to the level of Professor (Education).

This is a full time (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract (latest start date 1st August 2025)

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

  • First degree in Psychology, Neuroscience or related discipline (2:1 or above), and PhD in Psychology or Neuroscience.
  • Demonstrable expertise (e.g. by publication record, teaching experience) in one of the key areas: cognitive neuroscience, cognitive neuropsychology, or systems/clinical neuroscience.
  • Demonstrable expertise/experience (e.g. by publication record, teaching experience) in applying and/or teaching quantitative data analysis methods, current transparent research practises, programming for data analysis and simulation (in R; MATLAB and/or Python highly desirable).
  • Track record and commitment to innovation in the teaching and assessment of topics in Psychology and Neuroscience (e.g. curriculum development, assessment design, applying for funding to support education focused research)
  • Evidence of experience and excellence in supervision of final year UG projects in Psychology/Neuroscience and in the support and guidance of UG students.
  • A track record of excellence in discipline-specific research in Psychology/Neuroscience, as demonstrated by publications, including publications meeting the Research Excellence Framework (REF) standard of 3* or higher, and applications for competitive funding.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering high quality UG research-led education in Psychology/Neuroscience in multiple settings and formats, such as lectures, small group teaching, blended learning (e.g. receiving excellent student feedback, teaching awards)
  • xperience (or ability and willingness) to manage administrative tasks as needed for the programme and the broader academic community (e.g. module or other leadership roles, initiative in undertaking administrative duties).
To be considered for an appointment at Senior Lecturer (G8) level, we expect that short-listed applicants will demonstrate extensive experience/expertise/track record in several of the essential criteria 2 – 8.
  • Expertise/demonstrable interest in other domains of psychology than specified above (particularly social psychology, social cognition, developmental psychology, individual differences)
  • Higher Education teaching qualification (e.g. PGCAPHE).
