About The Role

We have an exciting vacancy in our Functional Skills Department for a full-time English Lecturer at Telford College.

The main purpose of this role is to deliver outstanding GCSE and Functional Skills English provision to our full-time students, providing an exceptional student experience that leads to positive achievement outcomes.

You will be teaching GCSE English and Functional Skills to 16-19 and adult learners at all levels, aiming to meet agreed success targets at the Telford Campus.

Key Responsibilities

1. Deliver and teach GCSE English and Functional Skills to 16-19 and adult learners at all levels to meet success targets.
2. Regularly review and monitor learners' attendance and progress, following up as needed to ensure achievement of targets.
3. Conduct, collate, and provide feedback on initial and diagnostic assessments to identify students’ ILP and support needs, offering differentiated learning strategies.
4. Maintain quality systems related to teaching GCSE and Functional Skills, including designing schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment plans, and activities.
5. Update and maintain electronic documentation to support teaching, learning, assessment, and tracking of learner progress.
6. Develop quality resources, including e-resources, to support the development of GCSE and Functional Skills English.
7. Prepare learners for exams in a timely manner and invigilate Entry level examinations.
8. Liaise with the English Team and Head of Maths and English, attending IV and standardisation meetings.
9. Support the embedding of English into vocational areas and participate in curriculum development for Functional Skills/GCSE English.
10. Stay updated with current developments and adapt to changes in GCSE English and Functional Skills.

Qualifications And Training

1. Teaching qualification, e.g., Cert Ed, PGCE, or DTLLS, or a commitment to achieve a Diploma in Education and Training (DET).
2. An appropriate degree in a relevant subject.
3. Level 2 qualification (GCSE A*-C or equivalent) in Maths and English, or willingness to attain these with College support.

Skills And Expertise

1. Experience teaching GCSE and/or Functional Skills English and/or Stepping Stone qualifications.
2. Experience working within a post-16 setting.
3. Experience working effectively with a diverse range of learners, including those with broad starting points, achievement levels, and SEND.
4. Understanding and experience with examination board requirements, internal verification, standardisation, and external verification.
