Job description

The Ladder School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our team.

The Ladder School, part of The Mercian Trust, is a Free School established in January 2019 to provide effective alternative provision for young people in Walsall. Located in a purpose-built facility near Walsall town centre, the school offers small class sizes and tailored support to students identified at risk of permanent exclusion by local mainstream schools, aiming to transform their behaviour and future prospects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the English GCSE curriculum and the ability to inspire students through their passion and knowledge of the subject. Only applicants with Qualified Teacher Status will be considered. Experience teaching a second subject to GCSE level, especially a practical subject, is desirable. There is also an opportunity to provide casual cover to supplement hours.

The successful candidate will be:

  1. An excellent teacher capable of motivating students to progress.
  2. Interested in the pastoral aspects of education.
  3. Outstanding at managing challenging behaviours.
  4. Positive and committed to the transformative power of education for students in Alternative Provision.
  5. A team player willing to collaborate and share resources.
  6. Passionate about English and inspiring to students.
  7. Dedicated to ongoing professional development and supporting colleagues.
  8. Innovative in developing solutions to improve achievement.
  9. Familiar with assessment for learning, target setting, and departmental improvement strategies.
  10. Committed to equality and safeguarding.
  11. Hardworking, reliable, and enthusiastic.
