Job summary

City of Glasgow College invites applications for two permanent Lecturer posts in Nautical Science & STEM. The roles are full-time (35 hours per week) with salary £43,402–£52,247 per year, and an enhanced start (£50,036) for candidates with a TQFE.

You will contribute to teaching, assessment and moderation, maintain learner records, and support a diverse student population. Maritime experience at sea and an OOW Certificate are required; a teaching qualification is desirable.

Qualifications

  • Maritime experience at sea is required.
  • OOW Certificate of Competency is required.
  • Chief Mate's or Master’s Coc welcomed.
  • Teaching qualification (TQFE or equivalent) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Nautical Science and STEM topics, and participate in assessment and internal moderation.
  • Maintain course and learner documentation, and accurate attendance/performance records.
  • Provide guidance and support to a diverse learner population; contribute to student progression.

Salary: £43,402 - £52,247 per annum (Candidates holding TQFE will commence on £50,036 per annum)

The successful candidate will join a team involved in preparation, teaching, assessment, and internal moderation in appropriate Nautical Science subject areas. You will be involved in maintaining all relevant course and learner documentation, along with accurate records of student attendance and performance. You will objectively evaluate courses and monitor student progress. You will provide advice and support to the students, meeting the needs of a diverse learner population. You must be able to communicate effectively and work well as part of a team.This role is all about developing students' knowledge and skill so experience in a teaching or training role is highly desirable. You must be self-motivated and reliant and have a desire to teach. You should possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to communicate to individuals with a variety of learning needs.

To apply for this position, you must possess maritime related experience at sea. As a minimum, you must possess an OOW Certificate of Competency and applications from candidates with Chief Mate's/Master's Coc are welcomed Teaching commitments will be tailored appropriately.

A teaching qualification at TQFE award level or a similar qualification is desirable though not essential.
