Job summary

University of the Arts London invites applications for a Lecturer to join Chelsea College of Arts on the MA Curating and Collections. You will contribute to teaching, assessment and curriculum development, bringing specialist curatorial expertise to a progressive program that addresses ethics, sustainability and inclusion.

You will support postgraduate students’ academic and pastoral development and participate in course planning, administration, and public-facing activities such as degree shows

Qualifications

• Experience teaching and assessing within Higher Education or equivalent.
• Active research, teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice in the field.
• Ability to communicate with a diverse student body and work across professional areas.
• Awareness of equality, diversity and inclusion in Higher Education and debates around decolonising the curriculum and awarding gaps.

Job description

Join Chelsea College of Arts as a Lecturer on the MA Curating and Collections and help shape the next generation of curators.

Working as part of the Fine Art programme, you will contribute to teaching, curriculum development and ongoing scholarship, bringing your specialist expertise to a course that is committed to developing innovative and critical approaches to curatorial practice.

You will have the opportunity to help evolve the curriculum around some of the most important issues facing the sector today, including curatorial ethics, sustainability, inclusion and the need to challenge established canons.

Alongside teaching and assessment, you will support the academic and pastoral development of postgraduate students, helping them to progress and make the most of their experience at Chelsea. Working collaboratively with the Course Leader and wider course team, you will contribute to course planning and administration, student engagement and curriculum development, as well as helping to keep teaching at the forefront of contemporary creative and professional practice. You will also play an important role in public-facing student activity, including the MA Curating and Collections degree show and Curatorial Assembly or equivalent projects.

Your profile

You will bring experience of teaching and assessment within Higher Education, or equivalent experience, in an area relevant to MA Curating and Collections, together with a relevant undergraduate and Master's degree or equivalent professional experience. You will have an active research, teaching, knowledge exchange and/or professional practice that can contribute to the development of the course and its students.

Collaborative and thoughtful in your approach, you will be able to communicate effectively with a diverse student body and work positively with colleagues across different professional areas. You will bring an innovative and reflective approach to teaching, a strong commitment to the student experience and an understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion in Higher Education. An awareness of debates around decolonising the curriculum and awarding gaps will also be important to the role.

A PhD, teaching qualification such as a PGCert, and/or Fellowship of Advance HE are desirable rather than essential.
