Job summary

University of Hertfordshire is seeking a Pharmacy lecturer at the Hatfield campus to deliver teaching, assessments, and curriculum development. The role includes student support as a personal tutor, attendance at Module Boards of Examiners, and involvement in Open Days and promotional activities.

The post requires a pharmacy degree and GPhC registration, with potential advantages for postgraduate qualifications and AFHE Fellowship. DBS checks and ATAS may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is essential.
  • Excellent IT skills and ability to communicate clearly with students and colleagues.
  • Postgraduate qualification (Masters/PhD) and Associate Fellowship of Advance HE would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Teach, learn and assess, and set/mark formative and summative assessments to support student learning.
  • Inform curriculum development and revise modules, teaching methods and related materials.
  • Attend Module Boards of Examiners and provide academic/pastoral support as a personal tutor.
  • Support Open Days, Induction events and promotional activities, and undertake research and scholarly activities as appropriate.

Job description

FTE:

1 fte (working 37 hours per week) part time may be considered

Salary:

UH7 £38,784 pa to £46,049 pa (pro rata) by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave:

35 days (pro rata) plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year

Location:

College Lane Campus, Hatfield

Main duties and responsibilities

To undertake teaching, learning and assessment, design engaging teaching activities, and set and mark formative and summative assessments to support student learning. To inform curriculum development, including revising existing modules and contributing to new modules, teaching methods, assessments, and related marketing materials. To attend and contribute to meetings and, where applicable, Module Boards of Examiners. To provide academic and pastoral support as a personal tutor and facilitate communication with students and University departments. To support Open Days, Induction events and other promotional activities and undertake research and scholarly activities as appropriate as well as carry out any other duties required by the Dean.

Skills and experience required

The postholder must possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in pharmacy practice to work within established teaching programmes. They must have an appreciation of the educational needs of students and an ability to communicate effectively, clearly and supportively with both students and academic colleagues. You must also have excellent IT skills. A willingness to attract external funding would be desirable.

Qualifications required

Minimum of an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in Pharmacy andcurrently registered on Part 1 of the General Pharmaceutical Council Register are essential. A postgraduate qualification, i.e. Masters and/or PhD, (completed or close to completion within 3 months of viva) in a relevant field or equivalent and have an Associate Fellowship of Advance HE (formerly the HEA) would be advantageous.

Our commitment to the University’s Safeguarding Policy requires that the recruitment of staff in this area, will require the minimum of a Basic DBS Check. In the course of our work and University-led activities, there may be external contractual obligations where a further Enhanced Check is required. DBS checks may require renewal in line with policy.

An appointment to this role may require an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate.
