Job description

Job Title: Lecturer in Musicology

The Music Department at the University of Manchester invites applications for a fixed-term (36 months) Lectureship in Musicology, starting from 1 September 2025. This position is available due to a three-year Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship awarded to Professor Rebecca Herissone.

Applicants from all areas of Musicology will be considered, with a preference for those offering expertise in:

  • Historical musicology
  • Early notation/source studies/material cultures
  • Performance studies

Additional experience in directing and/or managing a period-instrument ensemble is also welcomed.

You will be a committed and versatile teacher, expected to deliver undergraduate and Master’s-level teaching and supervision across the curriculum. You will also contribute to the department's management and administration under the guidance of the Head of Music. While primarily teaching-focused, you are expected to contribute to the research culture of the department, with approximately 10% of your working hours allocated for research activities.
