Robert Gordon University (RGU) invites applications for a Lecturer in Midwifery. The role involves contributing to undergraduate and postgraduate education, curricular development, and scholarly activity within the School of Health.

Flexibility exists to work from home part of the week, with on-campus teaching required to meet course needs. The post offers a competitive Grade 7–8 salary scale with relocation support, generous leave, and a strong pension scheme.

• Promote and market the School and its courses to local, national and international audiences.
• Maintain working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.
• Represent the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.

As a Lecturer in Midwifery, you will join a motivated team of academics, providing support for teaching and learning across the School. With knowledge, experience, and skills as well as a degree in midwifery, you will be expected to contribute to the School’s undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery portfolio. Opportunities to contribute to teaching and assessment on related courses both within the School of Health and the wider University reflect the inter-professional approach which is required of the successful candidate. You will be a committed and motivated professional, you should have excellent communication and teaching skills and be able to motivate and inspire students. We welcome applicants from the broad range of contemporary midwifery experience and settings. This breadth of experience will enable you to contribute effectively to teaching, assessment, curriculum development and the preparation of future midwives for practice within diverse healthcare environments.

All our education is evidence based and we encourage curiosity and innovation in our staff to enhance our academic portfolio. You will be supported to identify and actively engage in scholarship and research activities. Development of a personal research profile and contribution to applied health research or educational research is an expectation of all academic staff. Additionally, you may also be involved in the School’s commercialisation activities. This is a full time role however part time or job-share may be considered.

Grade 7 Salary Scale: £39,906 - 46,049
Grade 8 Salary Scale: £47,389 – 56,535

Salary on appointment will be dependent upon experience.

Candidates with limited or no prior experience as an academic will be placed on the first point of the Grade 7 scale. Consideration will be given to offering an Academic Attraction Payment (adjusted annually) for those candidates who have specific industry knowledge, skills or, expertise which are required for the position.

PURPOSE OF THE POST:

The lecturing role is predominantly to contribute to the School portfolio which includes undergraduate and postgraduate education, post registration CPD, scholarly activity and research.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

The responsibilities of the post holder will be to:

• Establish and maintain relevant professional and industrial links, as necessary, for the effective operation of the School's course (e.g engagement in work of external bodies, educational and professional).
• Promote and market the School and its courses to local, national and international audiences.
• Maintain working relationships with other Schools/Departments/Units within the University, as necessary, for the smooth operation and continued development of the School and its courses.
• Represent the School on relevant University committees and the School and University on external committees.
• Other activities as deemed appropriate by the Associate Dean or the Dean of School.
