Job summary

Chelmsford College in Essex is seeking a Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering to deliver hands-on workshop training within our Engineering workshops. The role focuses on practical teaching across full-time, part-time and apprenticeship programmes and requires the ability to pass on hands-on CNC and traditional machining skills.

The successful candidate will work with an experienced team, help learners develop core machining skills, and be supported to gain a teaching qualification if needed.

Qualifications

  • This role focuses on delivering hands-on workshop training rather than classroom-based engineering theory.
  • Experience as machinist, toolmaker, maintenance engineer or similar with strong practical skills is valued.
  • Teaching experience is welcome but not essential; support to gain a teaching qualification will be provided.

Responsibilities

Lecturer In Engineering Workshop Skills

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, practical, and industry-experienced Lecturer in Engineering to join our growing Engineering team.

This role is focused on delivering hands-on workshop training rather than classroom-based engineering theory. We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced machinists, toolmakers, maintenance engineers, manufacturing engineers, workshop technicians, or other engineering professionals with strong practical skills who would like to pass on their knowledge to the next generation of engineers.

The successful candidate will deliver high-quality practical teaching and assessment across a range of Full-Time, Part-Time, and Apprenticeship programmes within our Engineering workshops. Learners will develop core machining and manufacturing skills using traditional workshop equipment and industry-standard processes.
