Job summary

Weston College in the Weston-super-Mare area is seeking a Lecturer in Brickwork for a full-time position. You will teach bricklaying theory and practical sessions across construction topics, supporting students and contributing to curriculum development.

The role requires a Level 2 bricklaying qualification and at least five years in the construction industry, with the ability to work unsupervised. A recognised teaching qualification is preferred, or you will undertake this within three years.

Qualifications

  • Bricklaying qualification at Level 2 (e.g., Craft Certificate or NVQ L2).
  • 5 years professional experience in the Construction industry.
  • To be able to work unsupervised demonstrating self‑management when under pressure and in demanding situations.
  • Teaching Qualification (or willingness to gain within the first three years).

Responsibilities

  • Teach brickwork practical and theory sessions and related Construction topics across the range agreed with the Head of Area.
  • Offer tutorship to students, supporting their progression and maintaining high standards.
  • Provide guidance to students on progression to employment or further study.
  • Contribute to development of programmes, courses and training materials as appropriate.

Interviews for this role will take place on-site, at one of our college campuses in Weston-super-Mare.

Day to day duties
  • Teaching practical and theory sessions in Brickwork and related Construction areas, teaching across a range of topics as agreed with the Head of Area;
  • Tutorship of students, showing sensitivity to their needs and encouraging the highest possible standards.
  • Providing advice and guidance to students in their progression to employment or other courses.
  • Contributing to the development of programmes, courses and training materials as appropriate.
Required skills and qualifications
  • Bricklaying qualification at Level 2 (e.g., Craft Certificate or NVQ L2).
  • 5 years professional experience in the Construction industry.
  • To be able to work unsupervised demonstrating self‑management when under pressure and in demanding situations.
  • Teaching Qualification*

*If you do not possess a recognised teaching qualification, you will be required to gain this qualification, with the assistance on the college, in your first three years of service.
