We're proud to be a top 50 UK university (Guardian University Guide 2024), with top-quality facilities, inclusive culture, and our vibrant, ever-changing city.

The University of Sunderland is in an exciting phase of its development with a new vision and redefined strategic ambitions designed to take advantage of the ever-changing higher education landscape at home and overseas.

As one of only five new Medical Schools in England, the University of Sunderland School of Medicine welcomed its first cohort of students in September 2019. This is a very exciting time for our University, our NHS partners, and the City/Region therefore, we are pleased to announce that we are recruiting a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Anatomy.

With a track record of excellence in health education spanning almost 100 years, the University is well placed to contribute to the expansion of medical training and help to address the chronic shortage in some medical specialties including general practice in the Northeast. We have a significant focus on widening access and will deploy our expertise to ensure we recruit students from the communities they will ultimately serve.

Our programme will allow medical students to learn within our state-of-the-art teaching and learning spaces, including outstanding laboratory facilities, the latest in high fidelity clinical simulation equipment and some of the best hospital and GP settings in England.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lecturer in Anatomy to join our Medical School. You will be joining an established Anatomy team who are passionate about teaching, learning and research. We blend cadaveric anatomy and technology-enhanced learning approaches, including the use of portable ultrasound to deliver a clinically relevant and contemporary learning experience for our students.

As Lecturer in Anatomy, you will effectively contribute to the development and delivery of high quality undergraduate medical education, training and research in medical Anatomy and related subjects, ensuring provision of a high-quality learning experience throughout the full student journey.

What you can bring

The successful candidate will possess experience of teaching, learning and assessment in Anatomy and related subjects and have up to date understanding of the use of technology in undergraduate and/or post graduate learning and teaching as well as experience with cadaveric anatomy. You will have a strong commitment to collaborative teamwork.

What we can offer you

Our University is not just a place of academic excellence, but also a community that embraces inclusivity and support. We value our staff and offer a rewarding package that goes beyond just salary. At the University of Sunderland, we prioritise not only your professional growth but also your happiness and well-being.

  • Enjoy a generous annual leave entitlement of 36 days, along with an additional 5 closure days over the Christmas break and 8 Bank Holidays.
  • Enrolment into our pension scheme, ensuring your financial security for the future.
  • Access to our “My Lifestyle Benefits Platform”, where you can enjoy online discounts at hundreds of retailers every day. Plus, take advantage of exclusive schemes that allow you to purchase a new car, bike, or technology at a discounted rate.

Our work on equality, diversity and inclusivity has never been more important. We believe inclusivity is an essential value at the heart of what we do, and we want all our staff to be part of that journey with us.
