Job summary

York St John University London invites applications for two full-time Lecturer positions in the Computer Science Department on fixed-term contracts. You will contribute to MSc Computer Science and MSc Data Science programmes and assist with new AI programmes planned for February 2027, subject to validation.

You will deliver high-quality teaching, engage in curriculum development, and support student supervision across undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online delivery.

Qualifications

• A good, relevant master's degree in the subject area.
• Successful teaching experience in higher education or at equivalent levels of professional practice.
• Sufficient breadth and depth of subject knowledge to contribute to teaching and research in one or more of the areas listed above.
• The ability to teach postgraduate students and the potential to supervise postgraduate research students.
• Recent, relevant research activity or professional practice, including an emerging record of recognised outputs.
• The ability to use varied teaching approaches and technology to engage students with diverse learning needs.
• Experience of meeting the needs of students from different cultural, social and ethnic backgrounds.
• A commitment to equality, inclusion and collaborative working.
• A willingness to meet or work towards the threshold standards of the JISC Higher Education Teacher profile.
• Fellowship of Advance HE, or a willingness and ability to gain fellowship at the appropriate level, is essential.
• A PhD or doctorate, completed or nearing completion, is desirable.
• Experience of generating external funding through bids and collaborative activity is also desirable.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including online and blended approaches.
• Contribute to curriculum review and development, incorporating current disciplinary knowledge and professional practice.
• Develop and refine teaching through reflection, peer support, student feedback, scholarly activity and professional development.
• Undertake module leadership and contribute to academic tutoring, mentoring, programme administration and quality assurance.
• Support student project supervision and develop research and supervisory skills through professional development.
• Engage in independent and collaborative research and/or professional practice, producing outputs appropriate to the discipline.
• Contribute to knowledge exchange, public engagement and the development of external funding bids.
• Participate in team activities, professional networks and University events.
