Job summary

The University Of Manchester is seeking a motivated Lecturer in Optometry Clinics to contribute to the organisation, management and delivery of clinical teaching within the optometry degree programmes. You will help create a safe, professional learning environment for students to develop optometric skills, confidence, and judgement.

Qualifications

• An optometry degree and current registration with the General Optical Council (GOC).
• Experience in clinical teaching, student supervision or supporting learning in healthcare or professional practice settings.
• Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to balance teaching, clinical, administrative and governance demands.
• Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, information governance, quality requirements and equality, diversity and inclusion in a clinical teaching environment.

Responsibilities

• Managing the logistics, clinical governance, health and safety, information governance and quality requirements associated with the optometry teaching clinics.
• Supporting the delivery of high-quality undergraduate clinical education through clinic supervision, practical teaching, online learning materials and student assessment.
• Working closely with the Programme Director, Academic Clinic Lead, year leads, senior clinical staff, tutors and professional services colleagues to support effective programme and clinic delivery.
• Designing, developing and reviewing teaching materials, learning resources and assessments that support student learning and progression.
• Line managing and coordinating Optometry Tutors, while contributing to curriculum development, clinic planning and the enhancement of teaching quality.

Job description

We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Optometry Clinics. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a significant contribution to the organisation, management and delivery of clinical teaching within the University's optometry degree programmes. You will help shape a safe, effective and professionally focused clinical learning environment in which students can develop the skills, confidence and judgement required for optometric practice.

You will be responsible for:

Essential Criteria

• An optometry degree and current registration with the General Optical Council.
• Specialist knowledge of optometry and experience of leading or managing within a clinical optometric environment.
• Experience of clinical teaching, student supervision or supporting learning in a healthcare or professional practice setting.
• Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to balance teaching, clinical, administrative and governance demands.
• Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, information governance, quality requirements and equality, diversity and inclusion in a clinical teaching environment.

Desirable Criteria

• Advanced academic qualifications (e.g. PhD or MSc)
• Postgraduate professional qualifications (e.g. College of Optometrists Higher Qualifications)
• Experience working with clinically diverse patient groups
• NHS enhanced services accreditation
• A teaching qualification
