Job summary

SGS College is seeking a Learning Support Worker to assist learners with additional needs on Bristol campuses. The role is permanent and term-time focused, with opportunities for flexible hours across 28–38 hours per week and 38 weeks per year.

You will collaborate with curriculum staff to monitor learner progress, supervise during unstructured times, and provide targeted academic support both in and out of the classroom, along with essential administrative duties.

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above (or equivalent).
  • Experience with learners aged 16-25 with additional needs is desirable.
  • Experience or willingness to learn Office 365 and its applications.

Responsibilities

  • Work with curriculum staff to support learner progress in the classroom.
  • Supervise learners during breaks, lunch times, arrivals and departures.
  • Provide out-of-class academic support for learners individually or in groups.
  • Complete administrative duties, such as recording student support.

  • Working Hours: Minimum of 28 hours over 4 days or 35 hours over 5 days (Job shares are available), 38 weeks per year term-time all school holidays off

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • To work collaboratively with curriculum staff in-class to support learner progress and achievement in the classroom.
  • To supervise the learners during unstructured times when they are not directly supervised by curriculum staff (e.g. breaks, lunch times, arrivals and departures).
  • To provide out-of-class academic support for learners on an individual or group basis.
  • To complete all necessary administrative duties, such as accurately recording student support, in a constructive manner.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
  • Good standard of general education including Maths and English at GCSE Grade C or above (or equivalent), or willingness to upskill.
  • A desirable but not essential is experience of working with young people aged 16-25 with additional needs and/or EHCPs. This experience would preferably be within education, but other experiences related to health, social care or in the community is also very relevant.
  • Experience or the willingness to learn Office 365 and its applications.
