Job summary

Big Creative Training in London is seeking full and part-time learning support tutors to join the SEN department and help learners achieve their full potential.

This permanent role offers up to 35 hours across a 5-day week (term-time) with a £27,300 salary. Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK and be committed to safeguarding. Start date ASAP and pro-rata arrangements apply.

Job summary

BCT is looking for full and part time learning support tutors (various hours available) to join the SEN department and support learners to achieve their full potential.

  • Maths and English GCSE Grade 4/C or equivalent (Level 2)
  • Experience working with Children / Young people at KS4 /KS5 in education or mentoring, preferably in a diverse
Essential skills
  • The ability to work in a way which promotes the safety and wellbeing of children, young people and vulnerable adults
  • Experience of working with Children / Young people with additional needs /SEN learners with knowledge of educational health care plans and instruction to meet student needs
  • Ability to work effectively with students of varying abilities, backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Knowledge of behaviour management techniques, safeguarding protocols, and pastoral
  • Adaptability – shift priorities, work independently, and contribute to a positive team environment
  • Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with students and parents
  • Proficiency in implementing interventions, accommodations, and assistive technologies to support student learning and development
  • Communication: including active listening, empathy, and making complex information accessible
  • Promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equity, and respecting the unique strengths and challenges of
  • Additional training or certification in special education, behavioural interventions, or related areas
  • Experience implementing differentiated instruction and personalised learning approaches
  • Familiarity with technology/other specialised resources to enhance student engagement and
  • Experience working collaboratively with SENCOs, educational psychologists, or support agencies

Key tasks
  • Support designated learner(s) to achieve their personal education plan (PEP) targets
  • Support learners' specific behavioural needs and learning barriers, with instruction comprehension and proofreading
  • Encourage good attendance, punctuality and independent learning
  • Encourage students to take responsibility for their learning and promote self-esteem
  • Support tutors to ensure learners have an exciting programme that enables them to progress
  • Record academic progress and promote positive behaviour, safety and wellbeing
  • Collaborate with the tutor to refine lesson plans to suit additional learner needs
  • To plan and deliver personalised learning tailored to learners’ needs
  • Collaborate with colleagues and to facilitate holistic support and continuity of care for students
  • Effectively liaise with parents, guardians, and external stakeholders to support student progress

Salary and days of work

We welcome industry professionals who wish to enter teaching, via the fully funded Taking Teaching Further scheme’s qualification. This includes 6 months of reduced timetable for training with full pay and lesson cover.

You must be eligible to work in the UK as this job is in London and cannot be done remotely.

Inviting applications

Shortlisting and references

  • Short-listing of candidates will be against the specification for the post
  • Where requested and where possible, references will be taken up before the selection stage, so that any discrepancies can be probed during the selection stage
  • References will be sought directly from the referee.
  • References or testimonials provided by the candidate will never be accepted
  • All referees will be contacted by email and the job specification will be supplied. In line with safer recruitment, references must span over the course of 5 years

Selection process

The selection techniques will be determined by the nature and duties of the vacant post, but all vacancies will require a face to face interview.

Candidates will always be required to:

  • Explain satisfactorily any gaps in employment
  • Explain satisfactorily any anomalies or discrepancies in the information available to the panel
  • Declare any information that is likely to appear on a DBS
  • Demonstrate their capacity to safeguard and protect the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults

Online search

As required by Keeping Children Safe in Education, the HR Department will conduct an online search.

Any concerns from the search will be discussed with the panel, and subsequently the applicant.

  • Inappropriate attitudes toward, or relationships with, children or young people, or anything indicating a risk in a regulated activity with children
  • Evidence of extremism, radicalisation, or promotion of abuse or exploitation
  • Discriminatory, harassing, or abusive content directed at others
  • Publicly visible behaviour that would conflict with BCT’s code of conduct or safeguarding policies, or that would cause serious reputational harm to BCT

Induction and probation

  • All staff who are new to BCT will receive an induction that includes the safeguarding policies and guidance on safe working practices
  • All new staff will be subject to a 6 month probation period as detailed in the probation policy, which will provide a formal framework for ensuring that the standards of performance set by BCT are fully communicated. Checks will also be put in place during the probationary period to ensure safeguarding has been covered
