Job summary

Cornwall College Bicton campus in Devon is looking for a Learning Support Practitioner to contribute to our Additional Learning Support provision for learners with SEND.

You will support individuals or small groups to achieve learning goals and develop independent life and employability skills, including learners with communication, behavioural or social anxiety difficulties. The role is term-time only (36 weeks) with 37 hours per week.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a similar role, e.g., Teaching Assistant or support role.
  • Commitment to inclusive learning and SEN understanding.
  • Literacy and numeracy qualifications or willingness to work towards Level 2; training funded.

Responsibilities

  • Support individuals or small groups of learners in achieving learning goals and developing independent life and employability skills.
  • Support learners with communication, behavioural and emotional difficulties and social anxiety.
  • Help learners develop independent study skills and strategies to aid their own learning.
  • Contribute to the delivery of ALS provision in line with college values.

Location: Bicton

Salary: £24,838.84 FTE / CC24 / £12.91 per hour (actual pro-rata salary £17,196.12 plus holiday pay £2,513.28, total pro-rata salary £19,709.40, £14.80 per hour)

Terms & Conditions: Term Time only basis (37 hours/36 weeks) Support Contract

About the Role

We are looking to appoint a Learning Support Practitioners to contribute to the delivery of our Additional Learning Support (ALS) provision for learners who have Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

The purpose of the role is to support individual or small groups of learners in the achievement of their learning goals and the development of independent life and employability skills. A Learning Support Practitioner may also support learners with communication, behavioural & emotional difficulties and social anxiety. Learning Support Practitioners will aim to work with learners to develop independent study skills and strategies to assist in their own learning.

Skills & Experience

Experience within a similar role, perhaps as a Teaching Assistant or in a Support/Carer role would be present. A commitment to inclusive learning and a willingness to gain an understanding of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) is essential, as is a sensitive and caring approach to learners and trainees. Literacy and numeracy qualifications, or a willingness to work towards Level 2 are essential (we will provide and fund your qualification(s) with us).
