Job summary

Balfor Recruitment is seeking a Learning Support Assistant for a Southend-on-Sea based specialist school, supporting pupils with SEN and SEMH. The role involves one-to-one and small group support, and collaboration with teachers to deliver targeted assistance.

You will contribute to a safe, nurturing learning environment, building resilience and confidence across students while promoting emotional wellbeing throughout the school day.

Qualifications

  • Level 2/3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning or equivalent.
  • Experience working in SEMH/SEN settings is essential.
  • Empathy and a nurturing, patient approach.
  • Strong behavioural management and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
  • Adaptability and resilience across varied needs and schools.
  • Excellent communication with pupils, staff and families.

Are you a passionate and experienced Learning Support Assistant with a background working in SEMH and SEN settings looking for your next exciting opportunity? We are currently recruiting for a Learning Support Assistant to join a thriving all through specialist educational setting in Southend-on-Sea. This is a full-time, ongoing position as a Learning Support Assistant, an excellent opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Help create a safe, nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support students both in the classroom and during intervention activities.

Requirements:
  • Level 2/3 Award in Supporting Teaching & Learning or equivalent, degree in Psychology or Education - Ideal
  • Experience - As an SEMH/SEN Learning Support Assistant - Essential
  • Empathy & Understanding - A nurturing, patient approach
  • Strong Behavioural Management - Calm under pressure, supportive and consistent
  • Adaptability & Resilience - Able to meet varied needs across different schools
  • Excellent Communication - With pupils, staff, and families
