Job summary

TeacherActive is recruiting a Learning Support Assistant for an ASD Specialist Resource Base at a mainstream secondary school in Aberdare. The role is temporary until February half term 2027, starting ASAP, supporting secondary pupils with ASD and ALN needs in a 1:1 and small-group setting.

You will work closely with teachers and the ALN team to adapt learning activities, promote positive behaviour, and create an inclusive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children or young people with ASD and additional learning needs.
• Prior SRB, ALN provision or secondary school experience is desirable.
• Patient, nurturing and understanding approach to supporting pupils.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• Ability to adapt activities to meet individual pupil needs and work in 1:1 or small groups.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils individually and in small groups within the SRB.
• Assist teaching staff and ALN team to provide tailored learning support.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a welcoming mainstream secondary school in Aberdare. The school is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join their Specialist Resource Base (SRB), supporting secondary-aged pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the ALN team to provide tailored support to pupils with varying learning, communication and social needs. The role will involve supporting pupils both individually and in small groups, encouraging independence, promoting positive behaviour and creating an inclusive learning environment.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced LSA looking to make a real difference within a supportive secondary school setting.

• Experience supporting children or young people with ASD and additional learning needs
• Previous experience working within an SRB, ALN provision or secondary school setting is desirable
• A patient, nurturing and understanding approach to supporting pupils
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
• The ability to adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs
• Confidence supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
• A proactive, flexible and enthusiastic attitude towards supporting learning
