Freshsteps Independent School is looking to recruit dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join our exceptional team, working across Key Stages 1 to 4. This is a fantastic opportunity to support young people with SEMH and SEND needs in a small, supportive and OFSTED-rated Outstanding school.

Freshsteps Independent School caters for pupils aged 5–16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally. You will work alongside classroom teachers to assist in delivering high-quality, differentiated lessons in a highly supportive setting.

  • Key Stages: KS1, KS2, KS3 and KS4 – applicants must specify their preferred key stage(s) in their personal statement
  • Class Sizes: Maximum of 6- 8 pupils
  • Start Date: Immediate
  • Environment: Nurturing, therapeutic, calm and structured
  • Support: Work alongside experienced teachers and therapists
We’re Looking For Someone Who:
  • Has experience working with children or young people with SEMH and/or SEND
  • Is calm, resilient and nurturing in approach
  • Can work confidently with challenging behaviour using de-escalation techniques
  • Works well as part of a team and follows direction
  • Is enthusiastic, flexible and committed to making a difference
  • Has good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Can assist with both classroom-based learning and emotional support
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding in education
  • Prior experience in a school, PRU or alternative provision
Desirable (But Not Essential):
  • Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching & Learning (or similar)
