Job description

Are you passionate about supporting secondary school students in their educational journey?

GSL Education are currently seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join a welcoming secondary school in Lymington, Hampshire, as a full-time Learning Support Assistant (LSA). This meaningful role starts immediately (or upon completion of the candidate s notice period), offering an annual salary between £17,500 and £19,500 (Depending on Experience), and runs during term time on a full-time basis.

About the Role:

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to provide tailored academic support to students, including those with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs). You will support small groups and individual students with their work, delivering targeted interventions to enhance their learning experience. Your role will require resilience and flexibility, as you will be working across different year groups and with students who require varying levels of support.

  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons tailored to students' individual needs
  • Provide one-to-one and small group interventions to students, focusing on their academic progress
  • Assist students with EHCPs, ensuring their learning needs are met effectively
  • Encourage students engagement in learning and promote a positive, inclusive environment
  • Provide pastoral support when necessary, offering a caring and supportive presence in the classroom
  • Assist with managing classroom behaviour and ensuring that students are focused and ready to learn
  • Track and monitor student progress, providing feedback to the teacher on each student's development
  • Help students to develop life skills such as independence, time management, and organisational skills
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment where all students can thrive
  • Support the implementation of specific learning programmes and strategies to meet individual student needs

What we need from an LSA:

  • Previous experience working with students in an educational setting as a Learning Support Assistant, particularly in secondary schools, is advantageous
  • A degree in Education, Psychology, or a related field
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ Level 2/3 in Childcare or Teaching Assistance are desirable
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A proactive approach and ability to adapt to the needs of each student
  • Patience, resilience, and the ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps)
  • Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for a new one)
