Job summary

SGS Pegasus School is seeking a compassionate Learning Support Assistant to assist with 1:1 sessions and small groups for KS3/4 pupils with SEND. You will promote inclusive learning, support academic, social and emotional development, and work closely with teachers to ensure full curriculum access.

You will foster positive relationships, use proactive behaviour strategies, and contribute to a warm, inclusive school culture where every student can thrive and progress.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism or additional needs.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, nurturing and positive approach.
  • Good behaviour management with a relational focus.
  • Understanding of inclusive and personalised learning approaches.
  • Good organisation and time management skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent Level 2 qualifications) including English and Maths.

Responsibilities

  • Support KS3/4 class with 1:1 sessions and small groups.
  • Support pupils to access the curriculum with teachers and other staff.
  • Promote high standards of teaching and learning and pupil progression.
  • Build positive relationships to help pupils be confident and engaged.
  • Work in a collaborative team to ensure inclusion and wellbeing.

Job description

As a Learning Support Assistant your role will involve you assisting with general support throughout the school. You will be taking on 1:1 sessions and small groups, as well as supporting whole classes. In general, you will be supporting SEND pupils through the academic, social and emotional elements of school life. You will be expected to promote and secure high standards of teaching and learning, whilst supporting pupil achievement and progression. You will need to actively contribute to SGS Pegasus School vision, aims and objectives. This is a role which involves working very closely with Special Educational Needs students, individually and in groups, to enable them to take the fullest advantage of all that takes place at Pegasus School. You will take a proactive role in ensuring that students have full access to the curriculum, working closely with teachers and other supporting professionals to identify and meet student needs. You will be somebody who is able to build positive relationships with young people so that alongside their academic development, they are well-prepared for life beyond Pegasus School. You will help our students to work well as part of a team, with mutual respect; to understand their own rights and work for the rights of others, and to build the skills necessary for independent study. You should be prepared and have some knowledge of working with children from all age ranges from 4-19. All LSAs at Pegasus may be asked to support with intimate care. We are looking for someone to support a KS3/4 class. Children are typically working at KS2.

We're seeking someone who is patient, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting children and young people with SEND.

  • £26,427 - £28,153 - Full time equivalent

Permanent SGS Pegasus School Learning Support Assistant - KS3/4 4 days - 29.5 hours per week, 8:30am-16:30pm Mon, Wed, Thurs. 8:30am-16:00pm Fri (30 minutes flexible working at the start and end of the day) Full time equivalent salary: £26,427 - £28,153 per annum. Actual salary for part time, term time only working £18,284 - £19,479 per annum. Permanent.
