Broomfield SILC is a generic special school for pupils aged 2 to 19 years with 4 sites: our main site and 3 partnership sites at Windmill Primary, Rodillian Secondary and White Rose Post 16. The SILC is based in the South of Leeds and caters for a wide range of needs from moderate learning difficulties; severe learning difficulties; complex and multiple learning needs; Autism and social and emotional and mental health needs. Some students have additional needs - physical; medical; speech and language; visual, hearing or sensory impairment. We are a very popular choice for parents and carers and currently have over 270 pupils on roll.

Broomfield secured a ‘Good’ Ofsted in March 2023 where inspectors commented that leaders have ‘high ambitions’ and ‘high aspirations for all pupils’ and that ‘staff are proud to work in our school’. I am very proud of our school community where staff are committed to supporting young people to fulfil their potential and prepare them fully for their future, particularly focusing on communication, independence, and emotional regulation.

We are exciting to share that our school is going to be rebuilt and will open to an additional 100 young people in September 2027. We are currently in the process of designing and planning the internal and external areas to ensure we will have an environment that fully supports the needs of our learners and our school community.

We are looking for Learning Support Assistants who have the commitment, passion and resilience to make a difference to young peoples’ lives within our Inreach provision at Broomfield. Inreach is our KS1-4 complex ASC provision. The intention of the Inreach provision is to better meet the needs of students who are no longer able to access the generic educational provision on the main site at Broomfield South SILC. All young people have comorbidities of Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), SLCN and challenging behavior. We intend to provide the young people with a highly personalised independence routed curriculum, with a substantial level of support, appropriate resourcing, therapeutic interventions and opportunities to access and thrive in their educational and social development within 'Inreach' at Broomfield South SILC. The provision aims to address the unique needs of these students and promote their overall well-being, personal growth, and access to their community and after an enhanced period of support, support them to successfully reintegrate into generic SILC provision on the mainsite at Broomfield South SILC. The provision uses a Positive Behavior Support approaches, embedded Trauma Informed practice and all learners are supported by an MDT team; specialist speech and language therapists, specialist occupational therapists, and close liaison with other professionals from CYPMHS and social care. Inreach provision also provides education opportunitues to work with familiies in the home and community settings in order to support parental support, which we have identified as a key factor in ensuring placement security. Our key outcome is to ensure students are prepared for life after Broomfield and to where feasible reintegrate into the main body of the school.

These roles are suitable for candidates who have experience working with Autistic people, with complex SLCN, learning disabilities and SEMH needs. Candidates who have experience in education, adult services, health and social care will be considered for this role. The role is both challenging and rewarding within a highly specialist team.

In return you will be provided with comprehensive Continuous Professional Development and will be supported by a professional, knowledgeable and friendly staff team who will ensure you are fully equipped to meet the needs of our diverse learners.
