Learning Support Assistant

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children with special educational needs? Do you have the patience and dedication to support students with challenging behaviour? We are seeking a committed individual to join our team as a 1-1 Learning Support Assistant within a challenging primary school in Croydon.

Role Overview: As a 1-1 Learning Support Assistant, you will work closely with a student who exhibits challenging behaviour, specifically Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is a full-time position within a primary school setting, providing essential support to ensure the student's academic and social success.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide one-on-one support to a student with ADHD and ASD, addressing their individual needs and learning style.
  2. Assist the student in understanding and completing tasks, both academically and socially.
  3. Implement strategies to manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour effectively.
  4. Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  5. Monitor the student's progress and communicate with parents/guardians and relevant professionals as needed.
  6. Foster positive relationships with the student, promoting their self-esteem and confidence.

Requirements:

  1. Experience working with children with ADHD and ASD, preferably in an educational setting.
  2. Strong understanding of strategies and interventions for managing challenging behaviour.
  3. Patience, empathy, and resilience when working with students who exhibit challenging behaviour.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
  5. Relevant qualifications or training in special educational needs support are advantageous but not essential.
