Job description

Learning Support Assistant - Enhance Curriculum

Support students with additional learning needs and/or disabilities to access their study programmes, ensuring their success and progress. Work effectively and confidently on a one-to-one basis or with small groups in classroom settings, promoting social development through activities, clubs, and events both in social areas and across the college. Encourage social interaction and good communication skills, supporting participation in small group activities. This role is 30 hours a week and 40 weeks a year.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide timely, appropriate support for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities within structured learning environments, supervising and monitoring students, and recording interactions and progress using live student records. Complete all relevant documentation to meet college and audit standards.
  • Work confidently with students individually or in small groups, including accompanying students on external visits as required.
  • Promote social development through planned activities and events, ensuring engagement and encouraging communication and participation.
  • Develop informal citizenship and employability opportunities, fostering respect for the environment and positive behaviour.
  • Signpost students to support services and attend supervision meetings with welfare staff where necessary.
  • Set SMART targets for students' Personal Learning Plans (PLPs) and review progress regularly.
  • Liaise with curriculum staff to plan support, access schemes of work, and differentiate lessons as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain resources and equipment to support students with disabilities or learning difficulties.
  • Attend staff development, meetings, and focus days to develop relevant skills.

All post holders will be trained as Fire Marshals and First Aiders.
