Job summary

Treetops Learning Community in Grays, Essex is seeking a Learning Support Assistant (ABA) to support pupils with diverse needs. No prior experience is necessary as full on-the-job training is provided.

The role reports to the Pre formal Pathway Lead and attends 27.5 hours per week across 45.8 weeks per year, with a Band A point 4 salary (£17,814 reading as annual pay). Experience with children with SEN is preferable, and the post emphasizes safeguarding, data collection, and close collaboration

Qualifications

  • No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
  • Experience with children with special educational needs preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing individualised programmes using ABA-based approaches.
  • Deliver programmes 1:1, 1:2, or small groups.
  • Prepare resources for targets for each student’s programme.
  • Collect data on behaviours and skill acquisition.
  • Graph daily data and weekly progress data.
  • Maintain records in each student’s folder.
  • Assist class teachers in running daily classroom activities.
  • Supervise small groups during breaks and lunch, promoting independence.
  • Report safeguarding concerns to the class instructor and safeguarding leads.
  • Develop professional relationships with parents and provide daily information in home-school books.
  • Co-operate with colleagues to achieve school aims.
  • Form and maintain good relationships with students.

The Trust:In March 2025 Treetops School was judged by Ofsted to havemaintainedthe standardsidentifiedat thepreviousinspection.Thepreviousinspection was in February 2020, at which time Treetops was judged as Outstanding. Treetops Free School, which officially opened in September 2022, was judged Good in its first Ofsted inspection in March 2024.
Students throughout Treetops Learning Community have complex needs varying from moderate to severe learning difficulties, which may include; speech and communication difficulties,autismand global developmental delay.
The Role:Previousexperience of working with children with special educational needs whilst not essential, is preferable.Full on the job training will be provided.
Duties & Responsibilities: Tutors working within thePre formal Pathwaydepartment of Treetops school will work under the direction of their class instructor; with support and on-the-job training provided by their class senior.

  • Assistingin the development of individualised programmes, underpinned by the science of ABA (applied behaviour analysis), with specific emphasis onpre formal pathwayapproach to language
  • Implementing these programmes on either a 1:1, 1:2, or small group basis, dependent on the needs of the student(s) they are assigned to work with
  • Preparing resources for the running of targets for each students' programme
  • Collecting data on both behaviours that challengeand skill acquisition throughout the school day
  • Graphing daily data at the end of the school day and cumulative progress data at the end of the school week
  • Maintaining records in each students' individual folder;
  • Assistingpre-formalclassteachersin the running and set up of daily classroom activities
  • Supervising pairs or small groups of students at breaks and lunch times, encouraging independence, social play with their peers andappropriatebehaviour,which is consistent with the school's behaviour, value and aims documents
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns to the class instructor,Pre formal PathwayLeador safeguarding leads
  • Developing professional relationships with parents and providingaccurateinformation daily in the home-school communication books
  • Co-operating with colleagues to ensure the aims of the school are achieved consistently
  • Forming andmaintaininggood relationships with the children and young adults of the school; based on mutual respect, trust and understanding
  • Assistingwith the physical and self-care needs of the children and young adults as theyrequire; including, but not limited to, any toileting procedures
  • Working across all key stages within thepre formaldepartment on either a termly or bi-termly basis
  • Any other duties asdeemednecessary by thePre formal Pathway Leador Headteacher
