Job summary

Veritas Education is recruiting 1:1 SEN Support Assistants for Wakefield primary schools. You will support pupils with additional learning needs on a one-to-one basis, helping them access the curriculum and achieve personal goals within the classroom.

Ideal candidates are patient, resilient and experienced with extra needs in education or related settings. DBS checks, safeguarding compliance and registration interview are required.

Qualifications

• All applications subject to Enhanced DBS disclosure and safeguarding checks in line with policy.
• CV covering the last 10 years of employment history, with explanations for employment gaps.
• Legal right to work in the UK.
• Willingness to attend a registration interview.

Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 SEN support to pupils in primary settings.
• Deliver targeted interventions to enable access to the curriculum.
• Encourage positive behaviour and support pupil engagement throughout the day.
• Collaborate with class teachers, SENDCOs and school staff to tailor support.

1:1 SEN Support Assistant - Primary Schools

Location: Wakefield Role Type: Supply & Permanent Opportunities Pay: £95 - £120 per day (£18,525 - £23,400 per annum, term-time only)

Veritas Education is working in partnership with a number of welcoming and inclusive mainstream primary schools across Wakefield who are looking to appoint dedicated and compassionate 1:1 SEN Support Assistants.

This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with additional learning needs on a one-to-one basis, helping them access the curriculum, build confidence, and achieve their individual goals within the classroom environment. You will work closely with class teachers, SENDCOs, and wider school staff to provide tailored support and ensure every child can thrive both academically and socially.

You may be supporting children with:

• Autism (ASC)
• ADHD
• Speech and Language Needs
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs
• Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
• Other additional learning and developmental needs

The role will involve supporting learning, delivering targeted interventions, encouraging positive behaviour, and helping pupils remain engaged throughout the school day.

We are looking for individuals who are:

• Passionate about supporting children and making a positive impact on their education.
• Patient, caring, and resilient when faced with challenges.
• Experienced working with children with additional needs within education, care, youth work, support work, or similar settings.
• Confident providing 1:1 support and adapting approaches to meet individual learning needs.
• Able to follow EHCP targets and implement intervention strategies effectively.
• Skilled at building positive relationships with pupils, staff, and parents/carers.
• Comfortable using behaviour management and de-escalation techniques where required.
