A local college for Autistic pupils in Sunderland is seeking a Learning Support Assistant. This is a full-time, long-term role starting in September, potentially lasting for a year.
We are looking for candidates with experience in an education setting such as a school or college, and an interest in working with 16–25-year-old learners with Autism. Experience working with SEN pupils is preferred but not essential; a willingness to learn is key, and full training will be provided.
Responsibilities include assisting students one-to-one or in small groups with lessons, particularly in Maths, ICT, and English, where Level 2 proficiency is required. Support will also involve living skills training, such as travel training during trips.
Ideally, candidates will have a Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 2. If not, other relevant qualifications like a PGCE or Youth Work qualification are acceptable. Level 2 TA training can be provided at a subsidised cost.
You will work alongside experienced Learning Teaching Assistants and the class teacher.
