Job summary

Teaching Personnel is seeking compassionate Learning Support Assistants for an Alternative Provision in St Albans, starting September 2026. You will support pupils with SEMH, autism, ADHD, and learning difficulties, helping them re-engage with learning and build confidence.

This full-time, term-time role offers competitive daily pay (£56+), ongoing CPD, and strong support from a dedicated education recruitment consultant. DBS checks are required or in process.

Qualifications

  • Experience across school settings is advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Support students one-to-one and in small groups during the school day.

  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, therapists and external professionals.
  • Record progress and contribute to pupil outcomes and support plans.

Hours: Monday to Friday | 11:00am- 15:00pm | Term Time Only, Temp to perm

We're looking for compassionate, resilient, and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistants to join a supportive Alternative Provision in St Albans this September.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you'll work closely with pupils who may have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, or have experienced barriers to education.

You'll become a trusted adult, helping pupils regulate their emotions, re-engage with learning, build confidence, and achieve both academically and personally.

  • Supporting students on a one-to-one basis and in small groups throughout the school day.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people.
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation using restorative approaches.
  • Supporting pupils both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Helping students engage with learning and achieve their individual targets.
  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral staff, therapists, and external professionals.
  • Promoting confidence, resilience, independence, and social development.
  • Recording progress and contributing to support plans and pupil outcomes.
  • Creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting children and young people.
  • Is calm, patient, resilient, and approachable.
  • Can build positive relationships and communicate confidently.
  • Remains positive when faced with challenging situations.
  • Enjoys working as part of a supportive team.
  • Has experience working with children, young people, or vulnerable adults—or has transferable skills from roles such as care, youth work, coaching, mentoring, healthcare, customer service, hospitality, residential support, prison services, the armed forces, security, or emergency services.
  • Holds an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or is willing to apply for one.
