Axcis Education are seeking a full time SEND learning Support Assistant to work in a SEND secondary school working with pupils in KS3 and KS4. All pupils have a range of additional needs from complex needs, sensory impairments, downs syndrome, Autism and SEMH. The classes are split in to needs as well as ages having no more than 10 pupils per class. The school is part of their primary school which is in a different building. The primary school prepare their transition from school to secondary which they name a college from the end of Key Stage 2. During their time at the College, students continue their education focusing on core National Curriculum and Foundation subjects. Whilst at the College, students also participate in activities such as travel training and home life skills. In addition, students can gain work experience; so, by the time they reach Sixth Form, they have more of an understanding of their next steps in life. The Key Stage 5 (Post 16 Education) curriculum is linked to the ‘Preparing for Adulthood’ Framework, with student outcomes centred around Education and Employment, Independence, Community Inclusion and Health. There is also a Careers Programme in place. The ideal candidate must have experience working with children or adults with additional needs and know how to communicate, adapt their teaching methods and be resilient and patient. You will be working in a small class with mixed abilities. Most of the pupils are working at a lower ability but there are some working towards the national curriculum. You must be confident working with challenging behaviour and not be fazed by this. The role is full time working Monday – Friday, 8:45 to 3:30. There is parking on site and the school is in Exeter, EX1 area. We pay a daily rate of £89 - £90 per day.
