Job summary

Heath Farm School is seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support pupils’ learning, wellbeing and personal development in an inclusive setting in Ashford, Kent. You will work with teachers, SENCOs and professionals to help pupils access learning and build independence.

You will provide targeted support in literacy, numeracy and presentation, fostering a calm classroom and collaborative ethos for vulnerable children with SEMH needs.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience with children in education or care settings is desirable.
  • Caring, patient and enthusiastic with a genuine desire to help vulnerable young people.
  • Able to adapt to varied classroom and outdoor environments with confidence.
  • Works well in a team and can take initiative when needed.
  • Holds a full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

  • Support individual pupils and small groups to engage with lessons and tasks.
  • Clarify and explain instructions, learning activities, and use of resources.
  • Provide encouragement, reassurance and positive feedback to promote focus, confidence and self-esteem.
  • Deliver targeted support in areas such as reading, spelling, numeracy, handwriting, and presentation.
  • Help create a calm, structured, and inclusive learning environment.

About the Role

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, wellbeing, and personal development. Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals, you will help pupils access learning, build confidence, and develop independence within a nurturing, inclusive environment.

You will:

  • Support individual pupils and small groups to engage with lessons and tasks
  • Clarify and explain instructions, learning activities, and use of resources
  • Provide encouragement, reassurance, and positive feedback to promote focus, confidence, and self-esteem

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Holds GCSEs grade C/4 or above (or equivalent) in English and Maths
  • Has experience working with children in educational, care, or support settings (desirable but not essential)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: Up to £40.000 per annum (depending on experience)
