Job summary

The Isle of Wight College is pleased to offer an Apprentice Learning Support Assistant position at Lanesend Primary School. The role focuses on supporting pupils' learning and personal development under the guidance of experienced staff.

You will assist with classroom activities, liaise with teachers and SENCO, and participate in safeguarding and well-being duties. On-the-job training leads to a nationally recognised apprenticeship qualification, with a supportive mentor and a welcoming school

Qualifications

• Ability to use language and other communication skills that pupils can understand and relate to.
• Ability to establish effective relationships with pupils and empathise with their needs.
• Able to converse at ease and provide advice in accurate spoken English
• Ability to offer constructive feedback to pupils to reinforce self-esteem
• Ability to work effectively and supportively as a member of the school team
• Experience of working with children.
• Experience of using learning resources to support learning outcomes
• A basic understanding of Mathematics and IT use

Responsibilities

• Support pupils in achieving the best possible outcomes both in group situations and on their own.
• Liaise with class teacher, SENCO and other professionals about IEPs and contribute to planning.
• Promote the wellbeing and safeguarding of pupils, including personal care and moving and handling as required
• Establish effective relationships with pupils, parents/carers and colleagues as part of the team around the pupil
• Support pupils in developing interaction, communication, independence and inclusion
• Monitor pupil progress and adapt activities as needed to achieve learning outcomes
• Provide feedback and reports on pupil progress as required
• Prepare activities and resources in advance and maintain a good learning environment
• Carry out duties in line with school policies and maintain confidentiality
• Commit to personal development including attending training opportunities
• Supervise playgrounds, breaks, lunch times and educational visits
