Job summary

Somerset County Council's Virtual School seeks a Learning Mentor to support transitions for KS2-3, ensuring attendance and positive educational outcomes across Somerset. You will work with families, settings and professionals, monitor progress, manage information, and contribute to EHCP reviews, PEPs and TAC/TAF meetings.

You will travel across Somerset, be part of a frontline, caseload-based team, and benefit from generous leave, LGPS, flexible hybrid working, wellbeing support and volunteering

Qualifications

  • Holds an NVQ Level 4/5 (or equivalent) with English and Maths qualifications.
  • Understands challenges faced by vulnerable learners in Key Stages 2 and 3.
  • Experience in education, children's services or a related setting.
  • Communicates effectively and handles information confidentially.
  • Organised, proactive and able to prioritise a varied workload.
  • Builds strong relationships and collaborates with families and professionals.
  • Champions inclusion and equal access to learning opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Work with education settings, families and professionals to improve attendance, engagement and outcomes for children and young people (KS2-3).
  • Collaborate with settings and local teams to remove barriers to learning.
  • Support education providers to meet educational needs.
  • Attend EHCP Annual Reviews, PEP, TAC and TAF meetings with clear progress reports.
  • Monitor and track attendance, progress and outcomes using council systems.
  • Contribute to projects that improve education outcomes for children and young people.
  • Work in line with safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity and inclusion.
