Job Advert: Learning Facilitator

Location: The National Museum of Computing, Bletchley MK3 6EB

Job Description:

The National Museum of Computing offers a renowned, Sandford Award-winning learning programme that engages a diverse audience from Key Stage 1 upwards. The Museum, located on the historic Bletchley Park site, houses the world’s largest collection of working electronic computers, including iconic machines like Enigma, The Bombe, Colossus, and the WITCH.

We are looking to expand our pool of dedicated learning Facilitators to deliver our schools programme. This role is well-suited for those starting a career in museums or looking to return after a career break. While there are no guaranteed weekly hours, core hours typically run from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm on weekdays during term time, with afternoon sessions from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Maximum daily commitments will not exceed 8 hours. We are looking for individuals that can offer a minimum of 4 days a month.

Main Duties:

As a Learning Facilitator you will provide exemplary educational experiences to formal learning groups, through the delivery of high quality, interactive learning sessions on a wide range of cross-curricular themes. You will be focusing on our primary and secondary school groups but may also be required to lead sessions for adult learners (Universities and other groups) from time to time. You will also support the delivery of informal learning activities as part of TNMOC’s informal learning programme and special events. This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Essential Criteria:

The position requires the following skills, abilities, and personal attributes:

  • Excellent organisational, time-management and presentation skills
  • Confidence in working collaboratively within a team as well as autonomously to deliver sessions.
  • Self-motivated, and willing to learn, with the ability to adapt delivery style and pace to the needs and requirements of a learning group.
  • An enthusiasm for ensuring all learners have a fantastic experience.

The following experience or knowledge is essential:

  • Experience of leading educational sessions and working within an educational/ learning environment, museum, gallery, or similar setting
  • Knowledge and experience of best practice delivery to SEND groups and individuals
  • An interest in mathematics and computer science, and their application in the real world.
  • Experience of reflective practice and evaluation techniques for continuous improvement
  • Strong IT skills and confident in using MS Office and/or Google Workspace.

The following knowledge and experience are desirable:

  • Experience of delivering education sessions to college, university, and adult groups
  • A qualification in a STEM subject
  • Knowledge of heritage interpretation and learning theory and practice
  • Awareness of current museum, heritage and educational trends, ideas, and direction
  • First aid certification
  • Safeguarding experience

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging and high-quality learning experiences for schools through workshops, tours, and other hands on educational activities.
  • Support our informal learning programme during holiday periods and weekends.
  • Support the development of educational content, including handling relevant paperwork such as risk assessments.
  • Set up and tidy away after learning activities, ensuring a clean and safe environment at all times.
  • Assist with opening and closing the museum for educational sessions.
  • Monitor equipment and report any issues promptly.
  • Support evaluation and feedback processes to improve the learning service.
  • Assist with special events as needed, with advance notice. Events may fall outside standard hours but will not exceed 8 hours per day.
  • Develop positive and sustainable working relationships with our team of volunteers and staff. Responding to correspondence from the Learning Team in a professional and timely manner.
  • Be committed to Continuous Professional Development (CPD), keeping up-to date, and meeting any annual requirement for CPD required of you professionally
  • Attend any team meetings, training and supervision sessions as required.
  • Keep a record of working hours and submit monthly timesheets.
  • Follow policies and procedures on safeguarding, customer care, equal opportunities and Health and Safety requirements.
  • Be willing to undertake additional duties as reasonably requested

There will be training during August 2025. The role will begin with shadowing sessions in September and October with the aim to begin full time delivery by November. All training and shadowing will be paid at the day/half day rate as appropriate.
