Job description

Ideas | People | Trust

We’re BDO, an accountancy and business advisory firm providing advice and solutions to entrepreneurial organizations navigating today’s changing world.

We work with Britain’s economic engines—ambitious, entrepreneurial, high-growth businesses—and directly advise their owners and management teams.

We’ll broaden your horizons

Learning and Development (L&D) is a key part of our strategy and critical to our success. It helps us attract, develop, and retain talented people who take pride in their work and deliver results. Effective L&D underpins quality and productivity by equipping our staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to reach their potential.

Effective L&D requires specialist resources to identify needs and respond appropriately. It involves careful planning, project management, a strategic mindset, and understanding of regulatory requirements. We also focus on the latest innovations, tools, and technology to develop relevant, tailored, and timely learning experiences.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Experienced Manager / Senior Manager or equivalent to join our Learning Development team. The role is suited for a high-performing, ambitious individual eager to support our current curriculum and shape future L&D strategies during a growth phase. This position reports to the Development and Monitoring Lead (DAM).

The Learning Development team designs, curates, and creates content for the Audit programme, aiming to develop impactful, innovative solutions that meet learner needs and deliver business outcomes. The team includes technical and non-technical specialists responsible for authoring activities.

Lead authors collaborate with Business Partnering and Audit SMEs to understand business objectives and translate them into learning objectives and interventions, utilizing innovative design methodologies. They support project management and facilitate programmes when needed.

The successful candidate will lead a portfolio of programmes, support team-wide initiatives, review content, coach junior members, and contribute to projects like the Learning Library and Learning Culture programmes.

Requirements include practical audit experience, a solid understanding of financial reporting, ethics, and professional conduct. Experience in designing technical learning content is essential; formal qualifications are advantageous but not mandatory, as equivalent on-the-job experience is considered.

This role can be based anywhere in the UK, with travel to London and other offices, including residential stays for some courses.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Developing impactful, innovative content to meet learner needs and business goals.
  2. Reviewing content created by others to ensure quality, relevance, and consistency.
  3. Building and maintaining relationships with content SMEs.
  4. Supporting programme delivery through project management and facilitation.
  5. Designing, curating, or creating technical and non-technical content.
  6. Supporting development, delivery, and evaluation activities, including coaching.
  7. Training facilitators and hosts.
  8. Applying audit experience to develop relevant learning.
  9. Mentoring junior team members and expanding L&D expertise.
  10. Collaborating with business and technology teams to align learning solutions with needs and innovations.
  11. Supporting strategic initiatives and advocating for change.

Required skills and experience:

  1. Manager/Senior Manager level with experience in programme development, including technical and non-technical content, preferably with regulatory reporting knowledge.
  2. Qualifications in L&D are beneficial but not essential; proven content authoring and reviewing experience suffice.
  3. Knowledge of modern design thinking, innovation, tools, technology, and data analytics.
  4. Strong stakeholder management, influencing, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
  5. Ability to coach, develop, and work independently.
  6. Experience with behavioural change or cultural programmes is a plus.
  7. Interest in developing oneself and others through high-quality learning interventions.
  8. Ability to translate learning needs into objectives and coordinate responses.
  9. Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  10. Data analytics and problem-solving capabilities.
  11. Understanding of business strategy and a focus on outcomes.
  12. Commitment to excellence and quality.
