Job summary

South Thames Colleges Group is recruiting Learning Coaches to support learners with social, emotional and mental health needs on a part-time, term-time schedule across Carshalton, Merton, Kingston and Wandsworth.

You will mentor learners, assist with ESOL, English and Maths support, and maintain detailed progress records to help learners achieve their course goals and EHCP outcomes.

Qualifications

• No experience required, but working with learners with social, emotional and mental health needs is beneficial.
• You should demonstrate initiative, be organised and able to prioritise, and communicate at all levels.
• Good administration and computer skills are needed to record learner progress and set targets.
• You may need GCSE/Level 2 English and Maths if not already held.

Responsibilities

• Support and mentor learners with SES/mental health needs to complete qualifications.
• Assist ESOL, English and Maths support and track progress against EHCP outcomes.
• Keep high-quality written records of learner progress and set smart targets.
• Collaborate with teaching staff to support students across lessons.

Job description

Multiple posts at Carshalton, Merton, Kingston and Wandsworth

28 hours a week over 38 weeks a year term time only

The role of Learning Coach is a rewarding one, as you will support and mentor learners with social, emotional, and mental health needs, a disability, learning difficulty or medical condition, and/or with ESOL, English and Maths support needs, to enable them to successfully complete their qualifications, course and where appropriate, education, health and care plan (EHCP) outcomes.

These are fantastic opportunities for anyone looking to begin a career in education, especially for those who are recent graduates and looking to become a Teacher.

Experience is not essential but it would be beneficial if you have worked with young people or adults who have social, emotional and mental health needs. What we do ask is that you can demonstrate the ability to use initiative, organise and prioritise, and can communicate well at all levels. We would like you to have good administration and computer skills, to allow you to keep high quality written records of learner progress and set appropriate smart targets based on EHCP outcomes, agreed support plans and coursework.

We’d also like you to be willing to achieve a GCSE/Level 2 or equivalent with grades A*-C in English and Mathematics (should you not already hold this).

The pro-rata benefits package includes 27 days annual leave plus up to 8 additional days over Christmas/New Year as well as an additional 5 days Wellbeing leave to enhance employees’ physical and mental health. This leave is all in addition to Bank Holiday entitlement.
