Job summary

Gateshead Council is seeking a dedicated educator to design and deliver personalised learning for young people with SEND. You will carry out assessments, track progress and support learners toward education, employment and independence in a hybrid working setup.

The role requires a Level 4 teaching or training qualification (or equivalent) with SEND experience. You’ll embed English, maths and digital skills and collaborate with parents, employers and community partners to enhance learner

Qualifications

  • Level 4 teaching or training qualification and SEND experience or commitment to inclusive practice.
  • Experience planning and delivering engaging learning programmes for 16-24 year olds with SEND.
  • Ability to assess using diagnostic, formative and summative methods and inform learning progress.
  • Embed English, maths and digital skills to support learners' goals.

Gateshead Council's Provision for Young People supports young people aged 14-24 to develop the skills, confidence and independence needed to progress into education, employment and adult life. Through our SEND Steps to Work programmes, Supported Internships and wider learning provision, we work with young people with special educational needs and disabilities to provide personalised, inclusive and engaging learning experiences that help them overcome barriers, achieve qualifications and reach positive destinations

What You Will Get To Do

  • Design, deliver and review engaging, innovative and personalised learning programmes for young people with SEND.
  • Carry out initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessments to establish starting points and measure learner progress.
  • Support learners to achieve positive outcomes including increased confidence, improved wellbeing, further learning, employment, volunteering and independence.
  • Embed English, maths and digital skills into learning programmes to support personal, educational and employment goals.
  • Create enrichment opportunities both inside and outside the classroom that develop learners' knowledge, skills and behaviours.
  • Build strong partnerships with parents, employers, community organisations and other stakeholders to support learner participation and progression.
  • Provide outstanding pastoral support and create safe, inclusive and supportive learning environments where all learners can thrive.
  • Use creative and innovative approaches to help young people overcome barriers to learning and employment.
  • Maintain accurate records and management information in line with service requirements.
  • Contribute to quality assurance, quality improvement and business improvement activities.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partners to continuously improve learner experiences and outcomes.
  • Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post

What You Will Bring

  • A Level 4 teaching or training qualification (or above), together with a qualification or relevant experience in SEND and a commitment to inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice.
  • Experience of planning and delivering engaging, creative and high-quality learning programmes for young people aged 16-24, particularly those with special educational needs and disabilities.
  • Experience of carrying out initial, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment and using outcomes to inform learning and measure progress.
  • The ability to embed English, maths and digital skills within learning programmes, supporting learners to develop essential skills and work towards English and maths qualifications.
  • Strong teaching, learning, assessment and inclusion skills, with the ability to help learners overcome multiple and complex barriers to learning and employment.
  • The ability to build positive, trusting relationships with young people through relational and trauma-informed approaches, providing effective pastoral support that promotes wellbeing, engagement and progression.
  • Strong communication, organisation and independent working skills, together with adaptability, flexibility, emotional resilience and a commitment to continuous professional development.
