Job description

Salary - £36,498 per annum

Hours - Full-time, 35.75 hours a week (Monday to Friday)

Contract - Permanent

Location - Meadowbank Sports Centre, Edinburgh (Hybrid working)

At Edinburgh Leisure, we help people across the city get active, stay well and enjoy healthier, happier lives. Behind that work is a large, diverse team of colleagues who deliver brilliant experiences every day in our venues, communities and support services. This role is about making sure those colleagues have the learning, skills and confidence they need to thrive.

We are looking for a Learning and Development Manager who can bring energy, structure and fresh thinking to how we support our people. You will lead a small specialist team, work closely with managers and senior leaders, and turn organisational priorities into practical learning that makes a real difference to colleagues and customers.

If you are an experienced L&D professional who enjoys building capability, improving systems, influencing others and creating learning that is genuinely useful, this is an opportunity to make your mark in an organisation with purpose, scale and community impact.

What You'll Do:
  • Lead, support and develop L&D Specialists, making sure priorities are clear, work is planned, and the team delivers useful, high-quality learning support across the organisation.
  • Turn organisational priorities into clear learning delivery plans, overseeing the design and improvement of practical, engaging learning solutions.
  • Lead the design and delivery of management, leadership and open learning programmes, using a blend of online, face-to-face and practical resources to build the skills our colleagues need.
  • Work closely with Directors, Heads of Service, managers and colleagues to understand capability needs, promote the value of learning and make sure learning solutions are accessible, inclusive and easy to use.
  • Own and improve our ELevate Learning Management System, using data, feedback and reports to monitor impact, identify trends and improve how learning is planned and delivered.
  • Manage the Learning and Development budget, suppliers and resources, making sure activity offers value for money and supports agreed priorities.
What You'll Bring:
  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent in Learning and Development, Organisational Development or HR, or currently working towards this.
  • At least three years' relevant experience in Learning and Development, including experience of leading, coaching and managing L&D professionals.
  • Strong relationship-building and influencing skills, with the confidence to work with colleagues at all levels and support managers to take ownership of learning and performance in their teams.
  • Confident facilitation, presentation and communication skills, with the ability to deliver engaging learning for different audiences and explain information clearly.
  • A practical, analytical approach, with experience using learning data and insight to evaluate impact and support continuous improvement.
  • Strong planning and prioritising skills, with experience managing competing demands, resources and budgets while keeping learning activity practical, inclusive and aligned to our values.
  • Experience using and improving learning management systems, with the ability to manage digital learning content, maintain accurate learner data, produce useful reports and use insight to improve learning activity.
What We Offer:
  • Generous holiday allowance (32 days, rising with service up to 40 days)
  • Company pension (with employee contributions matched up to 12%)
  • Flexible working hours
  • Paid sick leave
  • Free membership across all our centres with access to fitness classes, gyms, and swimming pools
  • Opportunities for training, career growth and development
  • Cycle-to-work scheme
  • Access to discounts with a huge number of retailers (saving money in cinemas, restaurants, clothing, and electronics shops, on insurance and healthcare and much more)
Working Arrangements

This is a hybrid role based at Meadowbank Sports Centre, with time spent working from home and regular travel across Edinburgh to visit venues, facilitate training sessions, and attend meetings when needed.
